Anusol-HC ointment is a steroid medicine that temporarily relieves itching, swelling, or irritation caused by hemorrhoids or other conditions around your anus. Anusol-HC ointment is also used with other medicines to treat ulcerative colitis.
Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Use the Anusol-HC ointment exactly as directed. Use Anusol-HC ointment only as directed by your doctor. This medicine is for use on the skin only. Please do not get it in your eyes. Please do not use it on skin areas that have cuts, scrapes, or burns. If it does get on these areas, rinse it off right away with water.
To use Anusol-HC ointment:
Before using Anusol-HC ointment, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: another stomach/intestinal problems, infections, certain eye conditions, heart problems, high blood pressure, liver disease, kidney disease, thyroid problems, diabetes, bone loss, bleeding or blood clotting problems, mental/mood conditions, low potassium blood level and any allergies.
Limit alcoholic beverages while using this medication to decrease the risk of stomach/intestinal bleeding.
Rarely using corticosteroid medications for a long time can make it more difficult for your body to respond to physical stress. Before having surgery or emergency treatment, or if you get a serious illness/injury, tell your doctor or dentist that you are using this medication or have used this medication within the past few months.
Tell your healthcare professional about using Anusol-HC ointment before immunizations, vaccinations, or skin tests. Avoid contact with people who recently received live vaccines.
Rarely, this drug can make you more likely to get infections or may worsen any current infections. Avoid contact with people with infections that may spread to others.
Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, especially bone loss/pain, stomach/intestinal bleeding, and mental/mood changes.
