Revatio (Sildenafil Citrate) is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence; inability to get or keep an erection) in men. Sildenafil (Revatio) is used to improve the ability to exercise in adults with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH; high blood pressure in the vessels carrying blood to the lungs, causing shortness of breath, dizziness, and tiredness). Children should not usually take sildenafil, but in some cases, a doctor may decide that sildenafil (Revatio) is the best medication to treat a child's condition. What is the most effective way of taking Revatio?

Take Revatio exactly as it was prescribed for you. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets.

• Revatio is usually taken three times each day, about 4 to 6 hours apart.
• Shake the oral suspension (liquid) before you measure a dose. Use the dosing syringe provided, or use a medicine dose-measuring device (not a kitchen spoon).
• During sexual activity, if you become dizzy or nauseated, or have pain, numbness, or tingling in your chest, arms, neck, or jaw, stop and call your doctor right away. You could be having a serious side effect of Revatio.
• Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

Before taking sildenafil,

• tell your doctor if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
• tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: heart problems, stroke in the past 6 months, high or low blood pressure, a severe loss of body water (dehydration), penis conditions (such as angulation), history of painful/prolonged erections, eye problems, and other lung conditions 
• Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use 
• know that this drug may make you dizzy or cause vision problems. Alcohol or marijuana can make you more dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness or clear vision until you can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. Talk to your doctor if you are using marijuana (cannabis).

Common Revatio side effects include but are not limited to:

• flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling)
• upset stomach
• headache
• dizziness
• abnormal vision (blurred vision, changes in color vision)
• runny or stuffy nose or nosebleeds
• sleep problems 
• muscle pain or back pain

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Revatio: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat

Stop taking Revatio and get emergency medical help if you have:

• heart attack symptoms - including chest pain or pressure, pain spreading to your jaw or shoulder, nausea, sweating
• vision changes or sudden vision loss
• erection is painful or lasts longer than 4 hours (can damage the penis)

Call your doctor at once if you have:

• severe shortness of breath
• cough with foamy mucus
• ringing in your ears or sudden hearing loss
• irregular heartbeat
• swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet
• a seizure or (convulsions)
• a light-headed feeling
