Desowen Cream is a mild to moderate steroid medication used to relieve inflammation and itching caused by various skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis.

Use Desowen Cream only as directed by your doctor. This medicine should come with a patient information leaflet. Read and follow these instructions carefully. Ask your doctor if you have any questions.

To use the Desowen Cream:

• Wash your hands with soap and water before and after using this medicine.
• Apply a thin layer of this medicine to the affected skin area. Rub it in gently.
• Do not bandage or otherwise wrap the skin being treated unless directed to do so by your doctor.
• If the medicine is applied to the diaper area of an infant, do not use tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants unless directed to do so by your doctor.

Before using Desowen Cream, tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• If you are allergic to Desowen, any other medications, or its ingredients,
• You plan to take prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products. 
• Be sure to mention the following: other corticosteroid medications and other topical medications.
• If you have or have ever had diabetes, Cushing's syndrome, or liver problems,
• If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while using desonide, call your doctor.

Common side effects of Desowen Cream include burning, stinging, itching, irritation, dryness, peeling, or redness. These side effects should disappear in a few days as your body adjusts to Desowen. Other side effects of it include:

• scaly skin,
• thinning or softening of your skin,
• skin rash or irritation around your mouth,
• swollen hair follicles,
• changes in the color of treated skin,
• blisters,
• pimples,
• crusting of treated skin, or
• stretch marks.

Tell your doctor if you have signs of absorbing Desowen through your skin, including:

• blurred vision, or seeing halos around lights,
• mood changes,
• sleep problems (insomnia),
• weight gain,
• puffiness in your face,
• muscle weakness, or
• feeling tired.

Why is Desowen Cream prescribed?

Desowen Cream is a topical steroid used to treat inflammation and itching caused by many skin conditions, such as allergic reactions, eczema, and psoriasis.

How should Desowen Cream be used?

Apply a thin layer to the affected area(s) 2 to 3 times daily. Please do not use it for more than two weeks straight.

What side effects can Desowen Cream cause?

Burning, stinging, itching, irritation, dryness, peeling, or redness when Desowen Cream is first applied to the skin.
